car seat cover

I had the opportunity to make a car seat cover for a friend. I love sewing - when things work out and I don't have to unpick anything.

This is for a girl, but the car seat were kind of boyish colors. The pink ribbon I got at Walmart and the fabric - in the clearance bins - SCORE! I got the ric rac here. This is where I usually get most of my ribbon.

This is the finished product

I used orange for the underside

This is a close up picture of all 4 colors/patterns that I used. I love the craziness of the butterflies.

too much fun

Well, I made another one of these dresses. Here are my other ones. They are super easy and don't take a lot of time. Thanks to everyone who are having baby girls and giving me the opportunity to make you one :)

Arrr.....

Like all kids, mine go through phases, too. One of the latest ones is playing pirates. They want me to draw them a map and then they take the map, roll it up, and look through it like a telescope.

A short time ago, we were in Jackson Hole, WY and we saw a show on TV called Jake and the Neverland Pirates. The girls were hooked (no pun intended). They started saying, "army Heide's" (argh matey's) in their best pirate voice. It was great!

I saw this cute idea for some pirate skirts. Now, I have to say, this is not my best project. I started out with my bandannas, cut them in half (for another idea I saw) and ended up sewing them back together. Then, I sewed on some elastic - boy, that was hard! So, I called it a day when I finished these.

Next on my list of pirate dress ups are hats and patches. My ideas that I'm going to use are here. I am also going to store these in a wooden treasure chest I saw at Michaels. I will update this post when those are done.

dresses

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to make these dresses! Just WAY. EXCITED! I used my moms serger (and one day, I'm going to invest for myself) and completed these in a few hours.

One is for my sister who is expecting a little girl (3rd baby, 2nd girl) in June and the other is for my sister-in-law who is expecting her first baby (it's a girl!) in July.

purse/camera bag

I just finished my latest project. I wanted a camera bag for my camera, but all the ones that I liked that looked like purses, were about $100 too much. I ended up finding a tutorial on Pinterest from a blog called Tales of My Life. What an awesome blog/tutorial!

When I was working on this, I was kind of feeling overwhelmed. But as I got closer to finishing it, I clapped out loud! It's not perfect, but it serves it's purpose and it was less than $10 to make! Whoo Hoo!

Sorry, these pictures are not the best, but hopefully you'll get the idea.

start with a purse (or you could use a diaper bag)

make the inside and voila! Purse turned camera bag.

camera strap

I didn't like the look of my camera strap, the bright Nikon I was not a fan of - plus, the webbing dug into my neck a little bit. Not very comfortable. I found a simple tutorial over at Moda Bake Shop for a strap cover.

It actually took me 3 tries to get it just right. The first 2 tries, I thought that I measured right. Good thing it was an easy thing to do. I think it turned out good. If I were to make another one - which I just might - it will be ruffley :)

skirts

I was on a roll making some skirts for the girls a couple of weeks ago.

they saw this pattern and thought it was like Rapunzel

I thought I would try a different pattern. I saw this tutorial for this skirt here. It was pretty easy.

trick or treat

It's been about a month since I last posted something - I'm a little embarrassed, but it was a busy August.

Anyway, this year I am making the girls' their costumes and all the kids some trick or treat bags. I got finished with the bags, here they are. I got the pattern for the bags HERE. It was really easy. I made 3 in about a days time - if you take out sleeping and interruptions ;)
