I was looking around on Pinterest today and I came across 2 little sayings. When I read them, I had 2 people in mind. I wanted to make them a sign. So I went out to the garage to see what kind of wood I had lying around. I found a piece of a 1x6 and a 1x10.
I sanded the edges and front down to get ready to paint them.
I wanted a worn look for both of them. The white I just did a thin layer. The blue, I mixed with some water to thin it out.
I cut out some vinyl using my Silhouette and put them on the boards to use as stencils then added my paint. I added water to the brown paint because I liked the dark color, but wanted it thin-ish.
Here is the finished project!
All together, it really only took me about an hour for the 2 signs. I did have to start over on one of them because I had a little help from someone who thought they were 'helping' when I wasn't looking.
Happy Crafting!

Made this for my sister for her birthday. I used her favorite colors: grey for the board and yellow for 'best'. This was something that she didn't have and she's my only sister and best friend.
My board is 1x12x12 and I used my silhouette for the font. I painted my board grey and then I used vinyl as a stencil so that I had all my letters/words lined up and I could use the different colors (white/yellow).

A few months back - while I was doing a craft - I thought to myself, that I should hava a craft group. I wanted to share my crafts/creativity/talents with others. Maybe it was to also have some grown-up time :)
I thought that I would share what we did.
January group:
I got the All You Need LOVE idea here and the Scrabble LOVE here. I used my Silhouette to cut the letters ( I don't remember the name of the font ).
February group:
at this point my sister joined up with me in hosting her own group (in Layton). We do the same craft, share ideas & preparation work.
This is a treat box.I needed an idea to give my visiting teachers. I found the idea here.
I am adapting to the chevron look and came up with this idea. I used a piece of 1x6, paint, vinyl and a shamrock from The Wood Connection. Finish it off with twine and rhinestones. I think next time I'll try to find a thinner shamrock.
March group:
My sister created this craft with a plaque from Hobby Lobby, paint and vinyl. ( You can sand the edges a little and add stain if you'd like. ) We wanted something that could count as everyday decor &/or Easter ish.
This is a 1x6 piece of wood and the idea comes from Silhoutte. You can purchase this set, however, I switched the bird because I liked the look of his curly feathers. Tie it off with some twine and you have a great spring decoration.
I really like creating things with wood and paint. Every once in a while, I try to add in paper crafting or sewing. I love the ideas on Pinterest and feel like I can't keep up with all the cuteness.

Rainy Day project
It's a rainy day here (I love the rain!) and I thought that I would work on a craft - it happens to me daily (the need to craft)
I picked up this cute puddle jumpin' boots and umbrella kit at The Wood Connection. You can order online or go into the store and pick one up. Just be prepared that you will be emptying out your wallet - they have too many cute things :)
Here are the colors that I went with:
craft smart ~ white, hot pink, and apple tart
apple barrel ~ bright yellow
and then of course, Mod Podge
here are my pattern paper choices
(you can get that at The Wood Connection, too)
and here is my finished project. My FAVORITE part about this is the green & yellow boots!
I just love crafting it up!

Here is one of my latest *crafts.
I started out with a 1x8x15. I ordered my vinyl from Utah Vinyl. The flag part of this sign is done with a stencil and then just the black vinyl for the words. I stained it to give it a deeper feel for when you look at it. Then I just wrapped some wire around to give it a little something.
This sign was done with the letters being a stencil. I painted to board white, lettering blue and red. Added some stain. It then needed something else besides just the wire wrapped around it. I found the stars at The Wood Connection, put some holes in them and then added them to the wire.
I like how the stars add to the plain sign.

I made this flag for someone who passes along all their boys clothes to me. It's a little something that I made to show her how much I appreciate it.
I got the vinyl from my sister, here. It's is a scarp piece of 1" x 8" that is 15" long. Sanded it down so it was nice and smooth. The painted part I did from a stencil that was cut from vinyl. I then stained it. After it dried, I put on the black vinyl - let FREEDOM ring. I sprayed it with a finishing type spray. Then, I wrapped some wire around it for an added touch - you can usually get that from your local hardware store.
wha-la! Rustic looking decoration! I think I'll be making one of these for myself (and maybe a few friends)

I found these cute birds at The Wood Connection. Their's were painted fun spring colors, but I wanted something I could display all the time.
I did mine the color scheme of my living room. These birds found a permanent home perched on a table.

chunky flag
I enjoy making crafts. Whether it's sewing, making cards, or painting wood. I found this cute flag made out of wood. This was so easy, that I made 3 - easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
I just used 2x4 scraps that we had laying around in the garage for the stripes and a 4x4 for the blue. I cut the bottom of the 4x4 so that it was the same height as the rest of the flag.
white stripes - light ivory
red - tompte red
blue - prussian blue
stain - dark walnut
I love scraps of wood lying around just waiting for a craft!

For our May's Relief Society night they wanted to do a recap on President Uchtdorf's talk Forget Me Not from the October 2011 General Conference. A dear friend of mine who is the second counselor in the Relief Society presidency and also in charge of our RS nights asked me for some ideas. I saw this idea for something to display. I used a piece of 12x12 wood, painted it blue, got my vinyl from Utah Vinyl and put a ribbon around it. I also helped decorate some 3x5 notebooks with the Forget Nots for handouts.

little girls
I ordered this vinyl from my sister about 4 years ago. I had great plans to make something with it. Well, life got busy and I never got around to it. I was invited to a baby shower for a neighbor this week that I don't know very well and wasn't sure what to get her. I came across this vinyl and thought I could probably put it to use.
It says:
Little Girls
are precious gifts wrapped in love serene. Their dresses tied with sashes and futures tied with dreams
I just wanted to make a side note - this pink paint is from the Martha Stewart collection called Peppermint Bark. I love the name and the color.

kids' room decor
I was doing some cleaning and saw these picture blocks I have made. They were all done a while ago, but I thought I would share.
This one was for Emmi - the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. I saw the idea lilluna.com and got the picture from her website.
I painted a piece of 2x6 black, sanded the edges and added some stain. Had the picture printed at Costco and put it on with some mod podge. Fancied it up with some tulle and ribbon.
Here is another one I did from Lil' Luna
This one I didn't sand the edges - just kept it all black. This one is for the little girls.
What a great way to display little reminders using a block of wood, some paint, pictures and ribbon!

pumpkins
I saw these cute pumpkins (on Pinterest) and knew I just had to make these. I made some short ones and tall ones. I personally am becoming quite fond of the little ones. They sit on my kitchen table.
These pumpkins are made from a 4x4 post and a 7/8" wooden dowel. I rounded up some pine cones from a neighbor and had the paint on hand. My favorite part is the burlap tied around the stems.
I had fun making these - super easy. Thanks to everyone and their great ideas they post on Pinterest!

It only took me a year to finish my Halloween craft that I started last year with my sister.

These are made from a 2x6. A little paint, bead board, wire and gauze. Bodda bing, bodda boom :)

Happy Birthday
I wanted to make something that was a little durable to use when decorating for birthdays. I got these gifts and cupcake at The Wood Connection. They have such cute stuff.
I made the names using a 2x2 and then cut it down to size (yes, I know how to use a chop saw). I have one for each family member. I ordered some vinyl from my sister (she's the best), painted the wood and now I have some cute decorations for that someone special on THEIR day.
